Video: How Strong Is a Thermoplastic Weld?

Dior Construction is one of the leading local roofing contractors when it comes to residential and commercial roofing. We use only the highest quality commercial roofing systems from top manufacturers, and our selection of single-ply membranes include TPO, EPDM and PVC. Today, we will answer a common question in commercial roofing. How strong is a thermoplastic weld?

What Is the Strength of Thermoplastic Weld?

GAF routinely tests their thermoplastic single-ply roofing products using the T-Peel Test and the Shear-Test, making sure that their products score the most excellent figures. The results of both tests were the same: the thermoplastic weld itself did not peel open. This has good implications for a commercial roofing system, because it eliminates a big weakness.

Usually, the seams are the weakest part of a commercial roofing system. Weather damage causes the seam to fail and open, letting moisture damage the building. In a thermoplastic single-ply roofing system, the weld is the strongest part, reducing the risk of this happening. In addition, unlike thermoset single-ply roofing, thermoplastic single-ply roofing doesn’t use adhesive in the seam. This means that thermoplastic single-ply roofing systems aren’t as vulnerable to ponding water. As one of the top commercial roofing contractors, we recommend this roofing type if you prioritize durability.

Benefits of TPO and PVC Roofs

Thermoplastic single-ply roofing also has many other benefits. TPO, for instance, is flexible enough to handle foot traffic while remaining durable enough to withstand punctures and impact damage. In addition, the material has reflective properties that can reduce the amount of heat that can enter your interior. PVC is watertight and it can hold its own against chemical exposure, UV radiation, high wind speeds and fire.

Thermoplastic single-ply roofing systems like TPO and PVC are an excellent choice for your commercial roofing installation because of their strength and reliability. We believe in educating our customers so that they can make informed choices regarding their projects, which is why we’ll talk about the features of our roofing systems in detail and answer all of your questions during our initial meetings.
